After 20 years….

After more than twenty years, I am really making a concerted effort to live at my best.  I am exercising consistently, paying attention to my diet, focusing on my family and also growing spiritually.  I am sharing with you one of my great finds – Pricilla’s Yoga Stretches.  It is a PBS program (remember when all kids programming was on PBS?). She gently combines yoga with stretching in 15-minute workouts; great for those with busy schedules.  Her manner and ease with which she instructs really helps. And…her routines are actually doable. (The biggest  problem I find with many yoga routines is that you have to already have some level of stamina to do them.  If you are a beginner, this can be very discouraging.)  I can get through Priscilla’s routines and feel good about myself!  Plus…

a. She doesn’t make me feel bad because I may not be able to stretch as far as she can.

b. The workout is over before I even realize it.

c. My body and joints have never felt better.

Highly recomment it!  I pull her up On Demand, but here is the link to PBS videos.

Another Successful Balanced Meal

IMG_1273.JPG

Tonight was another simply balanced meal for my family. Chicken Alfredo with broccoli, red/green peppers and penne pasta. I made homemade Garlic cheese bread with French bread, garlic, margarine (next time I’ll do olive oil), oregano, and mozzarella slices. Water was the accompanying drink. I also added a couple slices of apples and romaine side salad to everyone’s plate. I think I might be getting the hang of this!

I tried an all natural fruit and veggie wash using vinegar and salt ( absolutely no aftertaste) to clean my fruits and veggies. I am going to make a larger batch and put it in a spray bottle. (Can also use a lemon/baking soda produce wash). You can find more information on my Pinterest page with all related links.

Learning to live naturally

With the recent onslaught of illnesses and deficiencies in my house, I am learning to live more naturally. For me that means eating more wholistic and using natural cleaning products. For example staples for cleaning in my house include vinegarvinegar. I have allergies and asthma so commercial cleaners are very irritating. I also love tea tree oiltea tree oil for my families skin as a general preventative measure and antiseptic.

Tonight for dinner was something simple – spaghetti with sautéed zucchini and salad. We had meat sauce with ground turkey (another staple in my house; it never leaves my grocery list). The salad had assorted lettuce including spring mix, romaine, spinach, carrots, beets, and strawberries. We drank water with dinner and had brownies for dessert. (Dessert is not the norm; a special treat.)
